I recently read an interesting article from an American newspaper on the demise of AM radio - it's sad but it's true. Technological developments have rendered it obsolete. US automakers set to discontinue AM radio on newer car models - even as a bipartisan group rally to oppose arguing it is very much the backbone of the US emergency alert system. Probably true, but if the digital infrastructure is wiped out, it's very likely that your AM transistor radio is melting in your hands..
